The Minotaur is a mythological behemoth that dwells in the deepest, darkest jungle of Jumanji. It is based on the creature that is depicted in Greek mythology as a large strong man with the physical features of a fierce bull, notably the head.

The Minotaur of Jumanji is a large man-bull beast that acts very hostile to anything it discovers. It appears to be a mainly nocturnal hunter that uses the darkness of the night to camouflage in the vegetation and ambush prey, whilst having glaring red eyes and fangs to seek out victims and intimidate them. The Minotaur is an agile creature, leaping out from hiding whilst using its strength to subdue its prey. However, the Minotaur is no match for the hunter Van Pelt's Elephant gunfire and will retreat after being shot at.

Only one Minotaur appears in the animated series, being the very first creature that Judy Shepherd and Peter Shepherd encountered on their list to Jumanji's realm. When the Minotaur was about to pounce on the kids, it was tackled down by Alan Parrish and eventually retreated into the jungle.

After the trio had to return to Jumanji to solve the Monkey Puzzle, they fooled Van Pelt after he captured them that they gave to puzzle to the Manji Tribe, he decided to exchange them for the crystal. While the Manjis began to prepare their attack, the Minotaur returned but Van Pet shot the beast and it retreated.

Behind the scenes[]

  • In Greek mythology, the Minotaur is a mythical creature portrayed in Classical times with the head of a bull and the body of a man or, as described by the Roman poet Ovid, a being "part man and part bull".
  • The Minotaur that appears in the animated series uses sound effects that are notably originated from the Jurassic Park films, such as the franchise's depiction of Tyrannosaurus Rex. This is fitting since Industrial Light & Magic provided special effects for the Jurassic Park films and the 1995 Jumanji film. The Jumanji film's director Joe Johnston also went on to direct the third Jurassic Park film.
