Juroceros is a legendary Rhinoceros cousin, native to the inner dimension of "Jumanji". Very little is known about them as they have apparently been mostly hunted to extinction, thanks to Van Pelt hunting the last one sometime before Alan arrived in the game. The Juroceros was a twin-horned quadruped that could be attracted by the horn of its own kind where it reacted violently towards whoever held onto it.

Behaviour[]

Jumanji Juroceros Horn

Van Pelt's Juroceros trophy.

Unique to Jumanji's realm, they are twin-horned, long-tailed beasts that have an olive shade to their skin. Juroceros are believed to be extinct due to excessive hunting, as Van Pelt claimed he hunted the last one, years before Alan Parrish arrived in Jumanji's realm. This has made their horns very valuable, even sentimental to anyone who actually hunted them before their demise.

Jumanji Juroceros Run

Juroceros in pursuit.

Like their Rhino counterparts, Juroceros are extremely aggressive when attracted by the horn of their deceased kind, violently attacking the owner of the horn. Despite being an extinct animal, Juroceros is very lively and can run very quickly to chase whatever it doesn't like.

Role[]

In "Brantford: The Game", a Juroceros was one of many animals released from the Jumanji-styled Brantford Library, presumably coming from the J-section. Unlike the one seen in "The Intruder", this one was blue-skinned.

Jumanji Slick Horn

Slick shows off his Juroceros horn.

In "Young Alan", Trader Slick tried to appease his new customers by offering the horn of the legendary Juroceros. Since Van Pelt claimed to have hunted the last Juroceros before Alan arrived and claimed a horn as his trophy, Slick presumably acquired the other horn.

Jumanji Juroceros Jack

The Juroceros corners Jack.

Juroceroes play an important role in The Intruder, where the young man named Jack was interested in acquiring a treasure chest from Van Pelt's lodge, which Peter led him to believe contained emeralds. It turned out that the chest held a Juroceros horn, which was very dear to Van Pelt as he believed he hunted the Juroceroes to extinction, despite only being able to bring back a single horn, due to the animal's massive size. The sentimental value of the horn made him furious that it was stolen from him, only to be subsequently attacked by an attracted Juroceros.

Jumanji Jack Fade

Jack barely misses the Juroceros devouring him.

The robber Jack later ended up being chased by the Juroceros after stealing the chest containing the horn after he incorrectly believed it contained emeralds. This Juroceros ended up solving Judy and Peter's clue by hunting the hunter and subsequently robbing Jack of his treasure chest, leaving him disappointed that it didn't contain emeralds after all.

Origins[]

Though fictional, Juroceros might've been based on the Rhino-like prehistoric mammal called the Arsinotherium. However, Arsinotherium is believed to have been herbivorous, while Juroceros seemed to be omnivorous, considering the last one seen in “The Intruder” was about to take a bite out of Jack before he was sent back to the Parrish Mansion in the nick of time. It also bears a resemblance to a creature from Congolese mythology called the Emela-Ntouka, which was said to look like a rhinoceros with a long, thick tail.
