The Bog of Despair, or Bog of Dispair is a swamp area located in the jungle of "Jumanji". It serves as a doorway to the Backstage of "Jumanji".
Overview[]
A terrible stench plagues the swamp, signalling travellers of the approach. Signposts provide warning of the potential dangers ahead, but inhabitants will sooner retreat then proceed any further.
Appearances[]
In "No Dice", as part of a deal with Trader Slick, Judy and Peter hitch a ride on the back of Slick's dog to find the trail of Alan in exchange for the most powerful thing in "Jumanji": The Dice. Passing by Meerkat tunnels, Slick's Dog comes to a halt when approaching the Bog of Despair, filling Slick up with dread to the point of cancelling his trade with the kids and drops them both in the water before retreating. Both Judy and Peter were quickly sunk in the Quicksand and pulled into the Backstage of Jumanji, reuniting with Alan.

In "Armageddon", based on a tip from Professor J.S. Heinrich Ibsen, the trio figure out that fixing a "blockage in the system" refers to the mechanisms within the Backstage, which will solve the answer to prevent the apparent annihilation of "Jumanji", and were led on after Judy remembered the Bog of Despair being the way they entered last time. The trio successfully enter the Backstage once more after sinking in the Quicksand.
